XPeng Motors has officially announced its entry into the Italian market, marking another major step in its global expansion strategy. During the 2025 Milan Design Week, XPeng became one of the first Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) brands to participate in the event and the only Chinese automaker featured at the Milan ADI Design Museum. Seizing this opportunity, XPeng revealed its official launch in Italy.
Italy, as one of Europe’s top five automotive markets and a frontrunner in electrification, has been actively advancing its NEV sector. The government has introduced various incentives, such as tax reductions for NEV buyers, and is investing heavily in EV charging infrastructure. The national charging network is expanding at an annual rate of 35%, now exceeding 40,000 public charging points, forming the most intensive smart charging ecosystem in Southern Europe. The country aims to achieve an annual NEV production capacity of 1.3 million units by 2025. In the first two months of 2025, Italy saw a 59.6% year-on-year increase in NEV sales, with market share rising to 7.2%. XPeng views Italy as a vital part of its globalization blueprint.
XPeng possesses strong competitive advantages. Technologically, the company insists on full-stack in-house R&D, striving to build a closed-loop product system that integrates software, hardware, and system architecture. In 2024, XPeng invested approximately RMB 6.46 billion in product and technology development, with 574 new patent authorizations and a total of 3,263 patents. In 2025, XPeng and its affiliate HT Aero plan to invest RMB 9.5 billion in R&D, with a focus on core intelligent vehicle technologies, including AI chips, intelligent assisted driving, ultra-efficient electric systems, and 5C ultra-fast-charging AI batteries. For example, the XPeng G6 is equipped with an 800V high-voltage fast-charging platform, which broke local charging records in Spain, demonstrating the brand’s technological leadership.
In the field of autonomous driving, XPeng aims to establish its first European autonomous driving data center in 2025. This will support the localization of the XNGP system using end-to-end AI large models. The company has already rolled out the full version of its XOS 5.2.0 system in Norway and the Netherlands, supporting multilingual interaction and local navigation.
XPeng’s product lineup is both rich and distinctive. At Milan Design Week, XPeng showcased three major products: the P7+ intelligent sedan, the HT Aero X2 flying car, and a humanoid robot, highlighting its full-scenario “AI + mobility” capability. The P7+ comes with a next-gen intelligent driving system, a range of up to 600 km, dual-motor AWD, and can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. Its intelligent interface supports natural language commands for full in-vehicle control.
The HT Aero X2 flying car features 800V fast charging and a 300 km range, with vertical takeoff and landing capability ideal for urban mobility. The humanoid robot, based on deep learning and autonomous decision-making algorithms, demonstrates XPeng’s exploration into AI for home assistance and companionship.
XPeng’s product momentum continues to grow. During the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, XPeng launched the P7+ Max Edition with extended range and a 5C ultra-fast-charging AI battery, offering 420 km of range in just 10 minutes via the S4 ultra-fast charger. The 2025 XPeng X9 also began deliveries, receiving over 6,000 orders within seven days in China. The first 300 right-hand-drive units have already shipped to Southeast Asian markets, such as Thailand. With flexible space, rear-wheel steering, and top-level AI, the X9 meets diverse family travel demands.
XPeng’s footprint in Europe is expanding rapidly. Since entering the European market in 2020, XPeng has launched products in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. At the Munich Auto Show in September 2023, XPeng revealed plans to expand to Germany, the UK, and France. More recently, it entered Poland through a partnership with Inchcape, leveraging the group’s mature European distribution network. XPeng has already entered southern European markets such as Spain, where the G6 broke charging records and won the “Best Tech Car” award. In France, the XPeng G9 was named “Jury’s Favorite Model,” and in Denmark, XPeng was recognized as a “Tech Pioneer” for two consecutive years.
With Italy joining its commercial roadmap, XPeng now covers nearly all of Southern Europe and has entered over 10 European countries. In Q1 2025, XPeng exported 7,615 vehicles, topping the list among Chinese EV startups with a year-on-year growth of 370%. XPeng also ranked No. 1 in NEV sales among Chinese brands in nine countries, including Singapore, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Ireland, Finland, Portugal, Belgium, and Israel. It outpaced Zeekr, NIO, and AITO across 12 European countries, with the G6 becoming the only Chinese model ranked in the top 10 D-segment SUVs in Northern Europe.

XPeng’s international strategy is shifting from simple trade to deep localization. On the channel side, it adopts a hybrid model of direct sales and authorized dealerships. By the end of 2024, XPeng had built over 110 stores in more than 30 countries and is piloting a “flagship + satellite store” network in Europe to ensure service coverage within a 50 km radius. On the supply chain front, XPeng’s EE architecture, co-developed with Volkswagen, will launch its first model in 2026. Meanwhile, a ride-hailing vehicle co-developed with Didi is already undergoing road tests in Southeast Asia.
With Italy’s inclusion, XPeng will use Europe as a strategic hub to accelerate its global market presence. The company aims to enter over 60 countries and regions by the end of 2025, targeting overseas sales to account for 50% of total volume within the next decade. XPeng will continue to introduce market-specific models, expand its sales and service network, and increase R&D investment to boost product intelligence and performance. This will further elevate XPeng’s position in the global EV industry and deliver high-quality, intelligent mobility solutions to consumers worldwide.
Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng stated that Europe is the most important NEV market outside China, and XPeng’s high-end positioning aligns well with local consumer expectations. The company will adopt localized strategies in various countries: direct stores in Denmark, sales companies managing dealer networks in Germany and France, and local partnerships for import and marketing in Spain, Portugal, and Italy. He emphasized that Chinese automakers must develop a complete globalized capability—from technical standards to service ecosystems, and XPeng is steadily moving in this direction, writing its chapter in the global transformation of the EV industry.
