As the new energy vehicle (NEV) market continues its rapid expansion, Xiaomi Auto has made bold moves, and its upcoming model, the Xiaomi YU7, has captured widespread attention. Recently, Wang Hua, General Manager of Xiaomi Group’s PR department, confirmed plans for the YU7’s debut via social media, reigniting discussion among car enthusiasts. Previously, Xiaomi officially announced the YU7 in late 2024 as a mid-to-large all-electric SUV equipped with CATL batteries and Bosch’s smart driving system, slated for release between June and July 2025. This latest interaction further amplifies public anticipation. Although the specific timing of its next auto show appearance remains unknown, industry analysts believe the YU7 is likely to debut at a major international motor show, aligning with its expected launch timeline.

At the recent Shanghai Auto Show—Xiaomi’s first exhibition—the YU7 did not make an appearance, disappointing many. Reports soon emerged suggesting a delay in the YU7’s release, but Wang quickly dismissed these rumors, affirming the original launch schedule. Meanwhile, Xiaomi continues to strengthen its global presence, with impressive vehicle delivery numbers and rapid store expansion. These developments have significantly boosted confidence in the YU7’s market potential.

Performance and Range

The Xiaomi YU7 showcases formidable capabilities in powertrain design. Its dual-motor system delivers peak outputs of 130kW and 235kW, resulting in a combined 691 horsepower and a top speed of 240 km/h, outpacing many rivals in the same class. With a curb weight of 2405kg, the YU7 offers an excellent power-to-weight ratio, ensuring agile acceleration and responsiveness, particularly in urban stop-and-go conditions and short-distance overtaking.

In addition to its high-performance dual-motor configurations, the YU7 also offers a single-motor version, giving buyers more flexibility. The single-motor variant peaks at 235kW, while the dual-motor versions are split into low- and high-power setups: the former combines a 130kW front motor with a 235kW rear motor, while the latter uses 220kW and 288kW units, respectively. This variety allows users to choose based on their driving habits, typical routes, and energy consumption preferences. The lower-powered dual-motor version is ideal for daily commutes, offering balanced output and efficiency. Meanwhile, the high-powered version excels at highway overtaking and spirited driving. The single-motor rear-wheel-drive model strikes a balance between range and efficiency, ideal for mid-range travel needs.

Xiaomi has paid particular attention to alleviating range anxiety. The YU7 is offered with 96.3 kWh and 101.7 kWh battery packs, supporting multiple range configurations. Customers can choose the right setup depending on their travel frequency, commuting distance, or road-trip habits. Notably, the YU7 supports 800V high-voltage fast charging, which, though specific speeds are yet to be disclosed, is expected to dramatically shorten charging times. This technology improves charging efficiency, especially for long-distance journeys. Its upgraded Battery Management System (BMS) ensures precise energy monitoring and optimal battery status across driving conditions, boosting safety, extending battery life, and reducing overall operating costs.

Smart Tech and Interior

Leaked interior photos reveal the YU7’s innovative approach to in-cabin technology. The instrument cluster is uniquely positioned beneath the windshield in a wraparound layout, presenting essential information like battery range, gear position, speed, navigation, and media across the driver’s direct line of sight. This layout offers both aesthetic novelty and practical convenience.

The central console removes the physical buttons seen in the Xiaomi SU7, creating a cleaner, more modern look. RGB ambient lighting strips embedded in the driver and passenger air vents allow dynamic lighting effects that shift based on driving mode or personal preference, enhancing the cabin’s immersive feel.

On the smart driving front, the YU7 is loaded with advanced autonomous capabilities such as automated lane changes, overtaking, and traffic light recognition. A total of 31 precision sensors—including four 128-line LiDARs and eight 8MP cameras—deliver comprehensive environmental awareness, enabling safe and intelligent decision-making.

Powered by NVIDIA’s Orin-X chip, the system offers 1024 TOPS of computational power. This allows for real-time processing of vast sensory input, ensuring rapid and precise driving responses. The intelligent driving suite also supports OTA (Over-the-Air) updates, meaning that software improvements and feature upgrades can be delivered seamlessly, boosting safety and performance over time.

Leveraging Xiaomi’s experience in the smart home sector, the YU7 integrates seamlessly with its smart ecosystem. This enables synchronized control across the vehicle, home devices, and mobile phones. For example, users can remotely shut off appliances when leaving the house or pre-condition the garage and living space before arrival. In this way, the YU7 becomes not just a vehicle but a core node in Xiaomi’s smart lifestyle network.

The in-car system is built on a deeply customized Android OS, offering an intuitive interface and a rich application ecosystem. Voice interaction capabilities allow users to control navigation, music, and vehicle functions hands-free, improving convenience and safety during driving.

Design and Space

Visually, the YU7 blends Xiaomi’s family design DNA with bold SUV elements to create a modern and tech-forward appearance. Its streamlined body reflects a fusion of SUV ruggedness and sports wagon elegance. The front features a closed-off grille, signaling its electric nature, paired with Xiaomi’s iconic “Mi”-shaped teardrop headlights. These not only stand out visually but also functionally, incorporating an “Aerobridge” hollowed-out design that connects with hood vents. This reduces frontal drag, enhances aerodynamic efficiency, and boosts downforce for high-speed stability. Fang-like lower intake vents give the front end an aggressive, sporty aesthetic.

From the side, the YU7 features a fastback roofline, large alloy wheels, and black fender flares, delivering a bold, performance-oriented profile. Flush door handles enhance aerodynamics and styling. Additional airflow vents add complexity to the design and further improve drag performance. Multiple rim sizes—from 19 to 21 inches—and various style options cater to personalized tastes.

At the rear, the YU7 uses a continuous, symmetrical C-shaped taillight setup—distinct from the horizontal light bar of the SU7—offering high visibility in all conditions. A hollow roof spoiler and subtle ducktail enhance downforce and reinforce the vehicle’s dynamic character. An exaggerated diffuser underscores the SUV’s sporty aspirations.

With dimensions of 4999mm (L) × 1996mm (W) × 1600mm (H) and a wheelbase of 3000mm, the YU7 provides generous interior space. Its five-seat layout ensures ample head- and legroom in both rows, even on long trips. The spacious trunk can accommodate multiple suitcases, and abundant storage compartments—like the center console, door pockets, and glove box—offer practical solutions for everyday use.

Market Outlook

Positioned as a mid-to-large all-electric SUV, the Xiaomi YU7 will face formidable competition in the global EV arena. In its segment, the Tesla Model Y already holds a strong market position, and many established automakers and EV startups have introduced similar offerings, making the space highly competitive.

While Xiaomi has yet to reveal the YU7’s pricing, it will undoubtedly be a critical factor in determining its market success. Whether the YU7 can carve out a strong niche with its long range, spacious and tech-laden interior, eye-catching design, and intelligent features remains to be seen. But as its debut draws closer, expectations are rising.

With its strong foundation in technology, spirit of innovation, and strategic investments in EVs, Xiaomi is well-positioned to make the YU7 a compelling new choice for global consumers, injecting fresh momentum into the electric vehicle market.
