A jury of 12 people in Delaware ruled on the 11th that Hunter Biden, the son of President Biden, had concealed his drug use when purchasing a firearm in 2018, and illegally possessed a firearm as a drug user. All three charges against him were found guilty, marking the first time a sitting U.S. president’s child has been convicted.

According to CNN, President Biden commented on the verdict later on the 11th, reiterating his role as a father and expressing pride in Hunter. In a brief statement, Biden said, “As I said last week, I am president, but I’m also a father. Jill and I love our son, and we’re proud of him today. Many families have loved ones struggling with addiction, and seeing your loved one emerge from that struggle so strong and resilient in the recovery process, there’s pride.” Biden added, “As I said last week, I’ll accept the court’s decision, and during Hunter’s consideration of an appeal, we’ll continue to respect the judicial process. Jill and I will be there for Hunter and our family, offering love and support. Nothing will change that.”

CNN noted that Biden arrived at the Delaware Air National Guard Base later on the 11th and was greeted by his son Hunter. Photos showed Biden embracing Hunter.

According to Reuters, on the same day Hunter was found guilty of illegal firearm possession, President Biden also made remarks on gun safety issues, but did not mention Hunter’s conviction in his speech.

Regarding Hunter’s conviction for illegal firearm possession, media reports indicated that he could face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of $750,000. The sentencing for this case is expected to take place in mid-October. In addition to this illegal firearm case, Hunter also faces tax-related charges, with the trial scheduled for September in Los Angeles.
