Amid the rapid acceleration of the artificial intelligence industry, OpenAI’s latest revenue outlook has drawn significant market attention. OpenAI Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar stated in a recent blog post that the company expects its annualized revenue to exceed $20 billion in 2025, a sharp increase from approximately $6 billion in 2024.

According to Friar, one of the key drivers behind this projected growth is the substantial expansion of computing capacity. She revealed that OpenAI’s total compute power is expected to reach approximately 1.9 gigawatts (GW) in 2025, up from 0.6 GW in 2024. The expanded compute capacity will support the training and deployment of larger and more complex AI models, thereby improving product performance and reliability.

Industry observers widely view computing power as a critical foundational resource for advancing artificial intelligence. As model sizes continue to grow and application scenarios become increasingly diverse, demand for compute resources has risen accordingly. By scaling up its compute infrastructure, OpenAI has strengthened its technological competitiveness while enabling broader adoption of its products across both enterprise and consumer markets.

On the user front, Friar noted that, with support from Microsoft, OpenAI’s daily and weekly active user numbers have continued to reach record highs, underscoring strong market demand and high user acceptance of its AI offerings. Related applications have been widely adopted across office productivity, programming, content creation, and enterprise services.

Meanwhile, OpenAI is accelerating its commercialization efforts and exploring diversified revenue streams. The company announced last week that it will begin displaying advertisements on ChatGPT to a subset of users in the United States, aiming to offset the high costs associated with model training and compute infrastructure. The move is widely seen as an important step toward achieving sustainable commercialization while maintaining product accessibility.

According to the latest news, analysts note that amid intensifying competition in the AI sector, OpenAI’s growth prospects depend not only on its technological leadership but also on its commercial strategy, ecosystem partnerships, and market expansion capabilities. As more enterprise clients and individual users continue to adopt its products, the company’s revenue potential is expected to expand further.

Overall, OpenAI’s expectation that annualized revenue will surpass $20 billion in 2025 reflects confidence in returns on compute investments, sustained user growth, and the long-term outlook for the AI market. Driven by expanded computing capacity, a growing user base, and ongoing commercialization initiatives, OpenAI is well positioned to maintain a leading role in the global artificial intelligence industry.
