The anonymous photo site 4chan may have just been involved in a crime far greater than the leaking of explicit pictures. According to the Latest report, someone uploaded four images of a woman who appeared to have been strangled to death.
“Turns out it’s way harder to strangle someone to death than it looks in the movies,” the first post read. “Check the news in Port Orchard, Washington in a few hours,” the anonymous poster wrote, “Her son will be home from school soon. He’ll find her and then call the cops. I just wanted to share the pics before they find me.” He also claimed to have a realistic BB gun and planned “suicide by cop.”
Just a few hours later, the Port Orchard Independent posted a story about police investigating a “a report of a woman who was assaulted and later died.” KIRO TV reports that the victim is a woman believed to be in her 30s. The woman in the photos posted on 4Chan fit that description. Police also believe the suspect stole her 2001 gold Ford Focus.
A spokesperson for the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Department told us that Tuesday night that they “cannot confirm at this time” that the photos in the post are associated with the crime scene. Still, they are investigating any possible connection. “Anytime someone posts graphic and disturbing images of an alleged crime scene in Kitsap County, our jurisdiction, we take that seriously and will investigate fully.”
At the time of this writing, the moderators on 4Chan are allegedly deleting any thread discussing this incident in mere minutes.
UPDATE (11:05 EST) : A KIRO 7 News reporter has confirmed via Twitter that police are investigating the 4chan connection.
UPDATE (11:47 EST): A person on Facebook who claims to know the family posted this publicly, identifying the victim as a woman named Amber.
