Berlin International Green Week

In January, the 100th Berlin International Green Week concluded successfully in Berlin, Germany. As a global agricultural, food, and horticultural event founded in 1926, this centennial celebration served not only as a grand commemoration but also as a global dialogue focused on the future of agriculture. The event drew over 1,600 exhibitors from more than 50 countries, showcasing the latest innovations in food, agriculture, and horticulture.

Smart Green Agri, Century Wisdom

One of the core highlights of the exhibition was the specially established centennial memorial exhibition area. Through a timeline format, it vividly contrasted the enormous evolution from the horse-drawn carriages and early tractors of 1926 to today’s digital intelligent equipment. This was not merely a retrospective look at history but aimed to draw wisdom from the evolution of agriculture. A practitioner demonstrating traditional brewing techniques noted that the early production methods’ adherence to natural rhythms and value placed on raw materials share the same spiritual core as today’s concept of sustainable agriculture. This profoundly illustrates that genuine agricultural development must be built upon a deep understanding and respect for natural systems.

This year’s Green Week also clearly showcased two major development trends in agriculture: intelligentization and greening. In the field of precision agriculture, innovative robotic solutions attracted significant attention. For example, a robotic system capable of precise pesticide application can operate at speeds of up to 14 km/h while reducing pesticide usage by up to 80%, significantly lowering environmental impact while enhancing operational efficiency. Another company exhibited a future tractor powered by clean energy, equipped with solar panels on its roof and operable remotely via mobile applications and GPS systems, offering a new pathway toward low-carbon emissions in agricultural production processes.

These technological breakthroughs are reshaping the entire chain of agricultural production modes, from sowing and field management to harvesting. At the same time, the EU’s Copernicus Earth observation satellite system provides farmers with high-precision field data, aiding in optimizing irrigation and fertilization decisions and demonstrating an innovative paradigm of data-driven agricultural production. Additionally, the specially established practical areas at the exhibition allowed the younger generation to experience modern agricultural technology firsthand, creating conditions for nurturing new forces in future agricultural production.

Blend Wisdom, Cultivate Green

The 2026 Berlin International Green Week vividly demonstrates that global agriculture stands at a critical historical juncture. On one side lies a century-old tradition of production practices and wisdom, while on the other side are disruptive technologies represented by robotics, clean energy, and big data. The bridge connecting the past and the future is the core consensus of “sustainable development.” While pursuing production efficiency, we must also shoulder our responsibilities toward the ecosystem, the climate, and future generations of consumers. This is not merely a competition in technology but a profound transformation in developmental philosophy. As showcased at this year’s event, only by closely integrating historical wisdom, technological power, policy guidance, and public participation can humanity truly cultivate a thriving and sustainable green future.
