Apple, after years lagging behind in the generative artificial intelligence race, is planning an AI counterattack with smart home devices. According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to launch four new AI-powered hardware products, including a countertop robot, a smart display, a smart speaker, and a new generation of security cameras. The core technology is a completely reimagined Siri. The first products are expected to launch as early as 2026, with the flagship countertop robot expected to launch in 2027.
Tabletop Robot: A Virtual Partner with iPad and Robotic Arm
Codenamed J595, the tabletop robot is described as an “iPad mounted on a movable robotic arm.” It features a 7-inch screen, can rotate horizontally or vertically, and can “follow” the user’s gaze and position for interaction. Its movements are partly inspired by the iconic Pixar lamp, and are designed to communicate with people in a more natural and present way.
The robot will be equipped with a new Siri and an anthropomorphic visual appearance (codenamed Bubbles). It can interrupt users’ conversations and make instant suggestions such as restaurant recommendations and travel advice. It can also conduct multi-round, human-like voice conversations. Apple hopes that it will participate in daily life like a family member, and even automatically track and keep the speaker centered during FaceTime video calls.

Charismatic System: Multi-User, Fully Voice Control
The countertop robots and smart displays will run the latest operating system, which is based on the software used for Apple TV and Apple Watch. It features voice control and a widget interface, and supports facial recognition to deliver personalized content to different users.
The smart display (codenamed J490) is a “simplified version” of the robot, without a robotic arm and advanced Siri dialogue functions. It is positioned as a home control and multimedia center. It can be hung on the wall or placed on a base. Its functions include music playback, web browsing, note-taking, video calls, etc. It is expected to be released in mid-2026.

Smart Security and the Next Generation of Siri
Apple is also developing the latest security camera, codenamed J450, featuring facial recognition and infrared sensing. It can automatically perform tasks based on user identity, such as playing specific music or turning off lights. The camera boasts long battery life and reduces wiring requirements.
Powering these devices is the all-new Siri, codenamed Linwood. This is based on Apple’s own generative AI model, while also testing a Glenwood version that incorporates third-party models such as Anthropic Claude. The upgraded Siri features more natural conversational capabilities, visual cues, and a new App Intents voice control framework.

Ambition for a “Reversal” in AI Strategy
Although Apple’s market share in the smart home sector still lags behind Amazon and Google, its hardware design, ecosystem, and brand loyalty make it a potential game-changer. CEO Tim Cook recently compared AI to “a disruptive force like the internet or smartphone” in an internal meeting, hinting at Apple’s significant investment in AI over the next few years.
In addition to home products, Apple is also exploring wheeled mobile robots and industrial robotic arms (codenamed T1333), and is even internally discussing the possibility of humanoid robots. Regardless of the final form, Apple has clearly placed AI and robotics at the core of its next-generation strategy.
