The 2025 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2025) was held from November 3 to 6, attracting energy companies, policymakers, and technology innovators from around the world. As one of the world’s largest oil and gas industry exhibitions, this year’s ADIPEC centers on the theme “Energy · Intelligence · Impact,” focusing on energy transition, intelligent technology applications, and enhancing industry influence. It aims to address major industry transformations and drive long-term energy transition.

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) emerged as a focal point of the event. Its CEO stated that global oil demand is projected to remain above 100 million barrels per day beyond 2040, underscoring fossil fuels’ continued critical role in global energy supply. ADNOC announced multiple strategic collaborations, including an exploration and development project with BP in Egyptian waters and an AI-powered production optimization platform launched jointly with SLB. These initiatives aim to enhance oil and gas efficiency while reducing operational costs.

UAE’s “Energy Addition” Strategy Gains Attention

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, emphasized at the opening ceremony that the UAE’s energy policy does not entail a complete shift toward renewable energy. Instead, it promotes the concept of “Energy Addition”—simultaneously developing clean energy while optimizing the structure of traditional energy sources. This pragmatic approach gained recognition from energy ministers and corporate representatives from multiple countries, who acknowledged that oil and gas resources remain indispensable in the short term amid sustained global demand.

The United Arab Emirates plans to increase the share of renewable energy in its electricity generation to 50% by 2030, while simultaneously advancing carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects to reduce the emissions intensity of fossil fuels. This “parallel development” energy strategy has enabled the UAE to forge a unique path in balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility.

Innovation Drives the Future of Global Energy

ADIPEC 2025 not only showcased the latest achievements in the oil and gas industry but also served as a vital platform for advancing energy innovation. The exhibition forums focused on hydrogen development, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), smart grids, and digital operations and maintenance, exploring how to advance the green transition while ensuring energy supply security.

Multiple experts pointed out that insufficient global oil and gas investment could lead to supply shortages and price volatility in the coming decade, with technological innovation being the key to solving this challenge. The UAE and its partners are modernizing production through digitalization and clean technologies, providing new directions for the energy industry.
