On December 24, 2025, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – National Research Centre for Banana (ICAR–NRCB) held a “Banana Yield and Technology Enhancement” event in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, attracting over 800 farmers, researchers, and agricultural entrepreneurs. The event aimed to promote the application of modern agricultural technologies in banana cultivation to increase yield and foster sustainable farming practices. Experts showcased the latest banana cultivation techniques and research findings, including the use of Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and robotics, all aimed at improving farming efficiency and management practices.

Tech Driving Yield Improvement

During the event, experts highlighted various technological methods to boost banana yield and quality. They emphasized that precision agriculture technologies and digital management could significantly enhance banana farming efficiency, especially in areas such as pest and disease control, soil management, and water optimization. The event also featured ICAR–NRCB’s integrated cultivation system, which uses comprehensive management techniques to help farmers increase banana yield while reducing production costs. Researchers stressed that India holds a significant position in global banana production, making technological innovation essential for the sustainable development of the banana industry.

Supporting Farmers’ Growth

During the event, ICAR–NRCB distributed high-quality planting materials and farming tools to 200 farmers from economically weaker backgrounds and provided free technical training to help them adopt modern cultivation techniques. Additionally, the center signed a memorandum of cooperation with local charitable organizations to promote agricultural development in rural and impoverished areas. Through these initiatives, the center not only expanded the reach of agricultural technology but also empowered farmers to increase productivity and income through technological advancements.

These efforts are part of India’s broader goal to modernize its agricultural sector. By applying innovative technologies, banana cultivation will benefit from increased productivity and improved quality. Experts emphasized that “technology-driven” growth is the key to improving banana yields, helping farmers increase their income, mitigate climate change challenges, and drive long-term growth in the banana industry.
