Following its success in Japan, Casio’s latest lunaches stress-relieving plush robot, Moflin, is expanding to other markets, including the UK and the US. US customers can now pre-order the gold or silver version of Moflin on Casio’s official website. The robot is expected to launch on October 1st for $449.

Moflin, resembling an enlarged, plush hamster, has become popular for its adorable appearance. However, its limited functionality may make the $429 price tag seem a bit high. Unlike Sony’s Aibo robot dog, which can roam freely around the house, Moflin cannot move autonomously and can only express simulated affection and intimacy by rotating its head left and right and tilting it up and down. Casio says Moflin is designed to “provide comfort and quiet companionship” and is suitable for cuddling or petting. However, it is not completely silent; it also emits gentle sounds that become more expressive with interaction, strengthening the emotional connection with its owner.

Moflin comes with a wireless charging dock, allowing users to see it automatically charge while “resting” in the dock. Furthermore, Moflin can recognize different people by voice and respond to touch using sensors embedded in its fur. Leveraging AI technology, it gradually develops a unique personality based on user interaction—perhaps becoming lively and outgoing, vocal, or quiet, docile, or even shy due to lack of attention. It’s worth noting that although Moflin is a digital device, Casio doesn’t offer a way to reset its personality. If users don’t like Moflin’s evolving personality, they can only care for it responsibly, just like a real pet, as once a personality is formed, it cannot be reverted to its original state.

The launch of Moflin reflects Casio’s innovative approach to health technology, committed to providing users with a new experience that relieves stress and brings psychological comfort.
