The ongoing destruction of a nation and its people, Syrian Edition, continues in its bloody and chaotic way. As we have seen in Afghanistan (by the U.S.) and in Yemen (by the Saudis), the destruction of medical facilities is now becoming a standard tactic of modern war.
Airstrikes in Syria destroyed three hospitals on Monday, including one affiliated with the international medical charity Doctors Without Borders. The charity said at least seven people were killed by four missiles dropped during two air raids carried out within minutes of each other and eight more were missing, presumed dead. The death toll across the three attacks is at least 23 civilians so far.
Officials with Doctors Without Borders believe the attack on its facility was intentional and carried out this time by either Russian or regime forces.
In a separate attack, at least 14 civilians were killed when missiles hit a children’s hospital, a school, and other locations in the rebel-held Syrian town of Azaz near the Turkish border on Monday. According to a medic and two residents, at least five missiles hit the hospital in the town center and a nearby school, where refugees fleeing a major Syrian army offensive were sheltering.
The bombardment comes just days after diplomats, led by John Kerry and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, announced an international agreement on a nationwide cessation of hostilities in Syria.
Quick Reminder: The U.S. began prosecuting this war in Syria to save the Syrian people from their evil dictator. The U.S. at first welcomed Russian involvement as a way to fight ISIS. I’m sure the Syrian people are grateful for the help.
We all do realize at this point this sh*t has gotten so far out of hand that a conclusion short of just killing everyone in Syria and starting over is about all that can be foreseen.
