In a significant move for the automotive industry, Tesla officially launched the Model Y Standard on October 7th, which is the previously rumored affordable version of the Tesla Model Y. However, this model is only available for the US market. The price for the Tesla Model Y Standard in the US has been officially announced at $39,990, approximately 284,700 RMB. This price is still significantly higher than that of the standard Model Y in China. Deliveries for overseas markets are set to begin within October. Those getting excited domestically in China can cool off—fortunately, this model wasn’t released in China. If its price were within the previously rumored 200,000 RMB range, the impact on domestic Chinese automakers could have been substantial. Presumably, upon hearing this news, domestic car manufacturers are breathing a sigh of relief.

the Model Y Standard

In terms of design language, the Tesla Model Y Standard appears quite minimalist. Its design language doesn’t differ greatly from the standard Model Y, with only simplified treatments in the details. For instance, it removes the through-type light strip, and the main headlights adopt an extremely minimalist layout. The front fascia features a relatively vertical outer frame, with crease accents on both sides. The bottom of the front end has a through-type trapezoidal grille, with a very prominent lower section.

According to the latest news, on the side profile, the new car shows no major differences from the standard Model Y. It features smooth, flowing lines, a curved roofline, black trim around the windows, and black door handles. The lower part of the body has an upward-sweeping character line, and the wheels are finished in charcoal black.

the rear

At the rear, the new car presents a layered effect. The top of the tail features a ducktail-style spoiler. The tail lights are arranged in an extremely minimalist layout, connected by a black decorative strip. The lower section has a sizable black bumper. Its cargo capacity is strong, reaching 2,123 liters, indicating very good practicality.

Minimalist layout

Inside, the new car adopts an extremely minimalist layout. It has a slim, standalone dashboard and a central floating large screen. Additionally, the new car uses a combination of leather and fabric for the seats. There is a recessed storage compartment at the front, which also saves on material costs while maintaining strong practicality. In terms of features, the new car supports 10-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat and 4-way power adjustment for the passenger seat. It removes the glass roof, rear screens, seat ventilation, ambient lighting, and double-paned glass. Regarding powertrain, the Tesla Model Y Standard is equipped with a 300 horsepower rear-mounted electric motor, achieving a 0-96 km/h acceleration time of 6.8 seconds. For the battery, it uses a 69 kWh pack, providing a WLTC range of 517 kilometers.
